Overview
The Latin America Compliance Officer will be required to partner with BGI's Latin America business group to work proactively to maintain, enhance and develop a robust compliance and legal program. The Latin America Compliance Officer will have direct reporting lines into both the U.S. Compliance Group and U.S. Legal Department.
Responsibilities
# Responsible for compliance and legal activities for BGI's Latin America business group including cross-listed and country specific products. # The breadth of compliance activities include identifying applicable country specific compliance and legal requirements and regulations and serving as the lead compliance/legal resource within the Latin America market. # Ensure appropriate controls are in place for current business as well as new business initiatives. # Establish policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements and firm policy; update existing compliance policies and procedures when necessary. # Conduct compliance training for BGI's Latin America business personnel. # Participate in related compliance and legal industry trade groups with intent of having an impact on how the regulatory environment is developing. # Provide guidance to the business as necessary on compliance and legal issues and build and maintain regulatory relationships. # Assist with coordination and management of regulatory exams. # Special projects as required.
Requirements
# 10+ years experience in international related compliance, legal or regulatory functions. JD required. MBA and/or professional designation beneficial. # Must have prior experience in designing, implementing and supervising Latin America related compliance activities. # Fluency in Spanish. Fluency in Portuguese a plus. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. # Candidate should have excellent organizational, negotiating and inter-personal skills; should be solutions driven, confident, highly motivated and organized team player with impeccable integrity. # Candidate should be able to act decisively and independently in situations requiring quick analysis and decision making. # Demonstrate strong analytical skills and leadership abilities. Candidate must be proactive, results oriented and self driven. Must be able to take initiative in resolving compliance and legal issues identify and solve problems in a constructive manner. # Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and complete tasks in a timely manner. # Must be able to interact with all levels in the organization and give presentations to large groups. # Ability to travel as required for business or compliance meetings.
