Looking for a dynamic ophthalmic technician for a fast growing 1 year old ophthalmology subspecialty practice in Hackensack. The applicant should be reliable, hard working, able to multitask, and be highly organized. The applicant should be knowledgeable with ophthalmic terminology and ophthalmic diagnostic testing. Strong preference is given for those applicants who are JCAHPO certified. The applicant must also be articulate, compassionate and caring. Leadership qualities are a strong plus but the applicant must also be team player and be able to get along well with their colleagues. Although applicants with a background in ophthalmology are preferred, this position is open to all applicants with strong skills who are eager to learn.

Responsibilities include:

proficiency in patient history taking. The applicant must be able to efficiently acquire a thorough and accurate ocular and medical history. The applicant should be strongly familiar with ophthalmic and medical terminology.

perform tonopen tonometry,

perform ophthalmic diagnostic testing including pachymetry, visual field examination, ocular coherence tomography(OCT), stereo fundus photography, keratometry, and A scan biometry.

assist the physician in office procedures such as lasers and minor surgical procedures.

be able to learn and perform instrument sterilization.

regularly maintain an organized and up to date medication supply cabinet

be responsible for ordering and maintaing stock of diagnostic and other office supplies

possess basic knowledge in troubleshooting problems with diagnostic equipment and be able to communicate with customer service to service the device.

regularly backup all diagnostic data.

be knowledgeable and comply with HIPAA and OSHA regulations and be responsible to regularly update their status.

The office is fully computerized with electronic medical records and therefore, proficiency in typing is important.
