We are the International Rescue Committee, a global leader in emergency relief, post-conflict development, resettlement services and advocacy for those affected by violent conflict and oppression. JOB DESCRIPTION:
We’re looking for a smart, creative developer who wants to make the world a better place. The IRC Information Technology department supports IRC’s work by providing reliable and scalable application development, customization and support, as well as consultation and technology planning, for systems throughout the organization. The Software Developer position requires an experienced technologist who can help us deliver effective software solutions for a highly distributed staff who work in technically challenging parts of the globe.

This position reports directly to the Director of Product Development and will collaborate with a team of talented, dedicated colleagues throughout the organization. We’re passionate about our work, and we're looking for someone who shares that passion and can foster an environment of innovation, quality and knowledge sharing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Work closely with the Senior Developer, Director of Product Development and other IT staff on enterprise software development and integration projects, with a short-term emphasis on an agency-wide grants management system
* Contribute to the ongoing development of our global intranet
* Respond to ad hoc requests for technical guidance and support from a diverse range of business units
* Help establish efficient IT processes by providing input on technical architecture decisions and best practices
* Develop productive working relationships with both IT and business-side colleagues
* Write technical documentation
* Participate in formal technology strategy discussions for the organization as a whole

REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and at least 4-6 years of experience with object-oriented design and software development methodologies
* At least 4-6 years of hands-on experience with Microsoft .NET programming and servers, including Visual Studio .NET , C#, ASP.NET, IIS and Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and 2005
* Familiarity with reporting tools such as SQL Reporting Services or Crystal Reports 8.5 or higher
* Experience with agile software development
* Demonstrated understanding of how IT solutions impact business objectives and ability to determine the right technical solution for the problem at hand
* Proactive contributor, innovative thinker and problem solver
* Strong writing skills, including technical documentation, status reports, etc.
* Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to successfully interact with technical and non-technical staff on all levels in a multicultural environment
* Effective time management and organizational skills; ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment (without losing a sense of humor)
* Ability to ramp up in new skills with ease

PLUSES:
* Experience with Microsoft SharePoint deployment and custom development using WSS 2.0 or 3.0, SharePoint Portal Server 2003 and/or MOSS 2007
* Experience with Visual Basic 6, VBA, COM, ADO
